Triumph in the Rain: Pintacuda and Della Stufa’s 1935 Mille Miglia Victory

Among the iconic moments of Mille Miglia history, the 1935 race stands out as a celebration of power, precision, and prestige. On April 14–15, 1935, Carlo Maria Pintacuda, co-driving with Alessandro Della Stufa for Scuderia Ferrari, captured an unforgettable win behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3, a true masterpiece of engineering.
Together, they completed the grueling 1,615 km route from Brescia to Rome and back in just 14 hours, 4 minutes, and 47 seconds, achieving an impressive average speed of 114.75 km/h. Riding in a dominant field of Alfa Romeos, their victory set the tone for Ferrari’s rising prestige in motorsport.
Why this win mattered:
- First-of-its-kind: 1935 marked one of the earliest wins by a car derived from Grand Prix racing, the Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3.
- Strategy and reliability: In a challenging race full of mechanical chaos and fatigue, Pintacuda and Della Stufa displayed exceptional teamwork and endurance.
Although they triumphed overall, the category for Sport 1100 cm³ offered a surprising twist, Ettore Bianco and Guerino Bertocchi, in a compact Maserati 4CS 1100, finished 7th overall, outperforming much larger, more powerful cars.
At the 1000 Miglia Experience Greece, we draw inspiration from this blend of artistry and endurance. Here, behind every turn and through each village, your drive becomes part of a tradition where preparation, spirit, and the thrill of the road come together.
It’s not just about the finish line.
It’s about how you drive through history.
